Dambisa Moyo to address the theme Women as Agents of Change on Commonwealth Day 2011

We are delighted to announce that international economist and best-selling author Dambisa Moyo will speak at the annual Observance ceremony marking Commonwealth Day on 14th March 2011. Each year, the Commonwealth Day Observance takes a particular theme. In 2011, the theme is ‘Women as Agents of Change’.

Ms. Moyo is known for her commitment and passion for economic development and the integration of emerging economies, particularly those in Africa, into the global economy.

Dambisa Moyo was named by Time Magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2009, and was nominated to the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders Forum.  Born and raised in Zambia, Ms. Moyo received her doctorate in Economics from Oxford University and a Masters degree from Harvard University.  She worked in the city for nearly a decade and served as a consultant at the World Bank.  Ms. Moyo currently serves on the Board of Directors of a number of international companies.  Her academic background, work experience and origin make her uniquely placed as a speaker at the Commonwealth gathering.

  1. Listened to Dr. Moyo’s talk about the American economy on the february (podcast download) from the Commonwealth Club. She made me feel hopeful, and smarter, all while delivering bad news! Looking forward to hearing her talk again.
